1. Prevention programs are proactive and evidence-based, striving to reduce/increase:
- Reduce individual risk factors.
- Reduce family risk factors.
- Reduce environmental risk factors
- Increase resiliency
- Increase enhanced protective factors
- Achieve individual
- Increase comprehensive community wellness through a team or collaborative approach.
2. Prevention programs utilize strategies designed to keep:
- Individuals
- Families
- Groups
- And communities healthy and free from the problems related to alcohol and/or their drug use/abuse.
3. To inform the general public of problems, associated with substance use/abuse as well as the impact of use on the individual, family and community.
4. Prevention efforts are designed to take a holistic approach thus increasing the chances for a healthy individual, family and community.
5. Programs are provided free of charge in the community, schools and other settings. Service are also provided for people of all ages.
Port Human Services offers Universal, Selected and Indicated programs.
1. Universal programs offer an opportunity for all citizens to gain knowledge about substance use/abuse as well as a variety of other topics. For example; decision making, goal setting.
2. Selected programs target groups that are exposed to factors that place them at a greater than average risk for the problem behavior. These programs are tailored to reduce identified risk factors and strengthen protective factors in the individual.
3. Indicated programs target groups that are exhibiting early signs of the problem behavior. These individuals are a risk for continued or increased problems. |
